A day in the life of Richard Beattie, regional director for JFSE Asia

Career background: I have worked for more than 15 years in the energy industry. I an experienced and committed professional with a proven track record in business development and management.

I previously held senior management roles in the finance and retail industries.

CFE experience: I have been involved in securing, overseeing and supporting hundreds of CFE projects globally in the past 15 years. The past decade has been focussed on clients in Asia Pacific region.

Favourite thing about the role: Every day is different. I love meeting new clients, discovering opportunities and securing work in new countries. It is fascinating operating in such diverse cultures.  I also enjoy the commercial and contractual negotiations to ensure we are achieving the best solution for the clients.

Outline a typical day: Email frenzies, meetings, presentations, prospecting, project management and anything to do with a project as the needs of the business dictate. Days can be manic and there is never a dull moment but after all these years I’m starting to be better organised! I am supported by Karen Szeto who is an absolute asset to our operations in Asia.

Career highlight: When I joined Kenny Mackie to make a little-known technology called Mass Flow Excavation (now CFE) into a global excavation solution. Moving to Singapore from the UK in 2009 was life-changing, as well as career-defining as I met my wife there and began a new chapter.

My ambition: I want to mentor others and pass on this mind-full of all things CFE and the region. I would like to secure additional work in the burgeoning offshore windfarm work and move into additional countries in the region.

Outside of work: I enjoy golf, skiing and music, as well as spending time with my family which includes three-year-old twins, a two-year-old granddaughter and a grown-up son and daughter.
