Day in the Life of Steven Kaub, senior business development manager

Name: Steve Kaub

Title: Senior Business Development Manager - Americas

Career background: I’ve been in the subsea excavation business since 2012, prior to this I spent seven years in the hospitality industry.

CFE experience: I’ve held many roles during my time working in CFE including project coordinator, HSEQ advisor, project manager and business development manager.

Your responsibilities at JFSE: My main focus is business development and providing tailored subsea excavation solutions to existing and potential clients in the Americas. I also oversee operations in our Houston office and support our Mexico operations.

Favourite thing about the role: The ability to travel and make new connections.  I love being able to travel somewhere new and develop relationships with the people you meet whether they are clients, partners or vendors.

Outline a typical day: I typically like to start my day off around 5am with an early morning run to beat the Houston sun and heat. I’m then in the office by 7am to allow more overlap with our UK office. My morning will be spent managing anything that needs taken care of with the UK office, and my afternoons are Americas focussed.  My average day could consist of client meetings, project meetings, or managing active projects in the region.  Each day varies greatly.  I’m typically heading home from the office between 4 and 5pm to enjoy my evening.

Career highlight: I got my foot in the door on the industry by taking a logistics/crewing role that I had zero experience in. I focus a lot of time on learning, and within three years I had been promoted twice and was managing projects in the region. I’ve now added to that experience moving into business development.

My ambition: Continue to learn and grow within the James Fisher group. The longer-term goal is to get into a senior management position in the renewables industry.

Outside of work: I enjoy being outdoors whether its running, hiking, or riding my motorcycle.  Socialising with friends on a patio is also a favourite activity.
